Suppose your bicycle is in an accident and physical damage to the insured bike occurs. In that case, the insurance will pay the amount necessary to repair the insured bike, not to exceed the value of the bicycle and the stated limit of insurance.
However, suppose the insured bike will not be repaired. In that case, we will pay the amount necessary to replace the bicycle with a current market substantially similar like and quality bike less the per occurrence deductible, not exceeding the stated insurance limit.
A cyclist involved in a bike accident with their bicycle insured shared, "I crashed my 2023 Specialized Tarmac SL8 while cycling with friends in Arizona. We hit a section of road scraped for construction work. Before I knew it, my wheels were swept out from beneath me, which destroyed my Roval Rapide CLX II carbon wheels, handlebars, shifters, saddle, and carbon saddle rails.
The only painless aspect of my crash was my claims experience with BikeInsure. The lady in claims guided me through making a claim, and I was paid $4,071.58, with only the bike accident deductible of $100 to pay.
I tell all my cycling friends that I have BikeInsure, I crashed, and the bike insurance works!"
A BikeInsure customer involved in a bike crash shared, "BikeInsure was the best $25 bucks I have ever spent."
The last thing I would have ever wanted was to have an accident. The last thing I would have ever wanted was to destroy a bike. But I race, I had a bike accident, and I destroyed the bicycle.
BikeInsure was the best $25 bucks I have ever spent.
Beyond the insurance claim, the best part about this whole experience has been your level of customer service. You have personally called after my signup, have followed up, been extremely professional, beyond friendly and genuinely cared about me as a person. That is unmatched anywhere else.
A USA Cycling Member who signed up for BikeInsure shared, "I was riding my 2018 Canyon Ultimate in California when I crashed after hitting a pothole. I took my bike to Summit Bicycle in Palo Alto for an evaluation. Luckily, I have BikeInsure! The bike shop gave me a written estimate for my bike insurance claim to fix the required handlebar and Shimano derailleur issues. The total damages, including parts, labor, and tax, amounted to $654.31.
Thanks to USA Cycling for offering BikeInsure, the bike shop fixed my Canyon, and I only had to pay the $100 bike insurance deductible."

BikeInsure is a great bicycle insurance product and an amazing service to cycling customers. I am forever grateful and will recommend BikeInsure to every bike owner I know.
A BikeInsure customer with optional theft insurance shared, "Had it not been for BikeInsure, I'd be screwed."
My BikeInsure'd bicycle was recently stolen when a thief violated my life and stole my bike, which had my prosthetic arm still attached to the handlebar while I was training for the Paralympics.
BikeInsure promptly paid me $10,000 just days after I filed my claim. The claims adjuster was kind and efficient. I was relieved and grateful for the quick and compassionate service I received from BikeInsure.
Bicycle Warranty vs Bike Insurance: Is there a difference?
WARRANTY promises what to expect, whereas INSURANCE guarantees covering the unexpected.
A warranty for a bicycle or e-bike is a promise made by the manufacturer or a similar party to ensure the quality of their product. It guarantees the quality of its product and outlines the conditions for repairs, refunds, or exchanges if the product doesn't function as intended. This knowledge empowers consumers to ensure that the bicycle goods they purchase meet the advertised standards.
Bicycle insurance is a separate opt-in policy intended to help cyclists manage the financial risks of their bike or e-bike and all attached non-stock accessories and components listed on the policy. Its purpose is to provide coverage against the risk of sudden and accidental direct physical loss to insured equipment caused by riding or transit accidents. In addition, bicycle insurance can cover theft if the bike or e-bike is stolen.
If your e-bike battery malfunctions, it is considered a warranty issue. However, if you have BikeInsure insurance and crash the e-bike that damages the expensive battery, it will be covered under your bicycle insurance policy.
Moreover, the warranty is not applicable if your eBike is secured and stolen. However, it will be covered under your bicycle insurance policy if you have BikeInsure Theft Protection.
Do I need bike insurance if I have homeowners insurance?
Yes! Bicycle and e-bike owners must obtain a separate bike insurance policy to protect their valuable bikes, as home or auto insurance often does not cover them. Cyclists securing separate bike insurance is crucial to mitigate the costly financial risks related to riding, transit, and theft that all bike owners face while protecting their other insurance policies, such as homeowners' or renters' insurance, in case of more costly catastrophic potential home losses.
BICYCLES - While insuring your bike with your home insurance policy may not provide sufficient coverage due to personal property limits (for example, a $2,500 limit) and exclusions, it's crucial to consider what happens when a bicycle accident happens while riding or transit, or if theft occurs!
Why risk it? Homeowners should view their insurance as protection against catastrophic losses instead of covering bicycles. If a bicycle claim occurrence is covered by the homeowner's policy, even with a scheduled Rider for the bike, the costs associated with Homeowners or Renters insurance CLAIMS are:
- Premium Increases,
- Non-renewal: Cyclists refer to as Cancellation and
- CLUE Reports: Consumers Claim Information when underwriting or rating a home insurance policy, which can impact a homeowner's eligibility for coverage. Cyclists refer to the CLUE Report as UNinsurable with a Private Insurer!
Note: Scheduling a non-electric bicycle as a Rider on a home insurance policy may increase the bike's coverage limits and even lower the homeowner's insurance deductible for the scheduled bicycle. However, home insurance claims still jeopardize your homeowner's insurance policy because they lead to higher homeowners' premiums and non-renewal (cancellation) of the home insurance policy.
ELECTRIC BIKES - Homeowners' insurance policies often exclude e-bikes as homeowner's property that is not covered because e-bikes are classified as motorized vehicles.
BikeInsure is a cost-effective, standalone, primary insurance solution for your bicycle and electric bike. The BikeInsure smart alternative provides the protection you need without compromising your homeowner or renters insurance.

BikeInsure CEO Buzzy Cohn advises that USA Cycling members get a specialty bike insurance policy to avoid riding, transit, or theft risks. While homeowners' insurance is necessary to protect your home from catastrophic losses, it is likely insufficient to safeguard your bike or eBike. Homeowner's insurance typically involves high deductibles, and filing a claim may increase your insurance premium. Making multiple claims may lead to the non-renewal of your policy and inclusion on the insurance industry's CLUE Report, making it difficult to get future home coverage. The BikeInsure policy is a simple bike insurance solution that provides comprehensive coverage. The significant advantage is that making a claim with a BikeInsure policy won't have any impact on your homeowner's insurance coverage.
