Does BikeInsure offer Bike Theft Insurance?
Yes! BikeInsure offers customers the option to pay for theft protection along with bicycle damage coverage, or they can choose bicycle damage coverage only. When theft protection is selected, the policy covers the financial risk of theft for the insured equipment.
The optional Bicycle Theft Insurance is available for an additional $8 per month. When you select 'BikeCoverage + TheftProtect,' the annual aggregate limit of $10,000 is extended to cover your listed bicycle or eBike against accidental damage while riding or in transit, as well as theft.
In the event of bike theft loss, you are responsible for a $250 deductible.
Does my eBike need Bike Insurance?
Yes! Electric bikes need specialized insurance. The BikeInsure plan covers eBikes that meet the "3-Class eBike standards," which limit motor power to 750 watts.
Unlike homeowners' insurance policies, which typically exclude electric bikes because they are classified as motorized vehicles, BikeInsure offers comprehensive bike insurance specifically for the "3-Class eBike standards."
- Class 1: eBikes that are pedal-assist only, with no throttle, and have a maximum assisted speed of 20 mph.
- Class 2: eBikes that also have a maximum speed of 20 mph, but are throttle-assisted.
- Class 3: eBikes that are pedal-assist only, with no throttle, and a maximum assisted speed of 28 mph.
All classes limit the motor's power to 750 Watts.
Additionally, BikeInsure provides reimbursement for repairs to your eBike and its listed accessories due to accidental damage while riding. Coverage continues during the transit of the electric bicycle and extends to a stolen electric bike when optional eBike theft insurance is selected.
